It's an opportunity for our European team to discuss all things PropTech, Start-ups, and Career with different founders from across the continent. Each month we will ask our guests some burning questions and quiz them about their product, we hope you find it insightful and enjoy getting to know the founders as much as we have.
This week we have been in touch with Christoph Degendorfer, Co-founder and CEO of bimspot.
bimspot is based Vienna, Austria and was founded in 2018. bimspot enables every stakeholder to work on a single building information model (BIM) with their choice of software, 24/7 around the world, in real-time. bimspot uniquely allows a lifecycle orientated collaboration with an unparalleled quality and transparency in the planning, building and real estate industry.
After 15 years as an architect and 8 as BIM consultant, it became clear that construction projects were not using the full potential of BIM.
I can sum this up in 3 points:
That’s why I decided to launch bimspot.
First of all, I strongly believe that the integration with other solutions will increase the value for our users and facilitate their BIM workflows and processes. In the long-term, we’d like to extend our focus to the operational phase of a project, while right now we’re mostly focusing on the planning and construction phase.
If you allow me, I would like to share the most common feedback we get: “WOW, bimspot is very easy to use”.
This makes us very happy because we put a lot of effort in providing a smooth user experience on our platform. We’re convinced that an easy-to-use platform contributes to make BIM data accessible, independently from your BIM knowledge.
I’d say that the biggest challenge is the resistance to change in the industry. Lots of workflows are pretty much manual. The degree of implementation of BIM and the requirements are different in each country and this is for sure a challenge when it comes to align and try to adopt unified processes.
Data will still play a vital role in the real estate and property management industries. It’s a benefit for everyone involved in a BIM project.
To make data-driven decisions and have a positive impact on the project’s outcome, data has to be accurate.
At bimspot, we focused on data from the first moment. From our experience, the quality of the models is often not met in the projects. This will still be our focus this year and machine learning will support this objective by automating corrections, easily finding issues and reducing the possibility of mistakes.
