Why should you keep your LinkedIn up to date?

Keep linkedin up to date

By Emma Callahan, US PropTech Consultant

At LMRE, we pride ourselves in the fact that we train our consultants to be 360 degree PropTech recruiters.

This means we handle the entire PropTech recruitment process, which is catering to both sides of the business. The first is on the client side. Meeting with PropTech companies and innovators looking to scale their teams and find the best talent for critical positions as they scale and grow. The other side is working with top candidates in their professions who may be looking for a career change or want to enter a new industry. Most of a consultant’s day is spent working with professionals in their field to help them find their next perfect PropTech career opportunity. In these conversations they really get to connect with them and learn about their career history.

One of the most common answers heard from candidates during the qualifying call is “Sorry my LinkedIn is not up to date” or “I have not put some of my relevant work experience on my LinkedIn.” With technology and innovation automating various processes, it is natural to start incorporating technology into how we market our career history. The first start should be with an updated Linkedin.

It is no secret that Covid pushed companies to remote working and many roles that used to be in-person quickly became virtual. A study by McKinsey and Company found “that about 20 to 25% of the workforces in advanced economies could work from home between three and five days a week. This represents four to five times more remote work than before the pandemic and could prompt a large change in the geography of work, as individuals and companies shift out of large cities into suburbs and small cities” (2021). Many companies, such as Facebook and Microsoft have even stated that employees never have to return to work and can work remotely for the rest of their careers. LMRE has also seen a shift in many of our clients offering fully remote roles. So how does this link back to Linkedin?

Currently on LinkedIn there are over 77,000 remote job postings listed on the site. By having an up-to-date profile with accurate detailed information, you can not only differentiate yourself from other candidates but also increase the likelihood of finding a remote role. Additionally, keeping your profile accurate increases the likelihood of recruiters finding you through keywords and algorithms. A report by Jobvite found “87% of recruiters find LinkedIn most effective when vetting candidates during the hiring process — especially those under 45 (90%)” (2016). Updating your LinkedIn could be a discerning factor in making sure you are not only seen by recruiters but have access to more relevant opportunities. If you are unsure of where to start, reach out to a LMRE consultant to help you tailor your LinkedIn experiences to find you your next perfect role!
