Our Client is seeking a Lead Developer to drive the design, development, and delivery of a cutting-edge software platform.

About the Role

Our Client is seeking a Lead Developer to drive the design, development, and delivery of a cutting-edge software platform that combines embedded systems, immersive technologies, and connected devices. This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for overseeing software architecture, real-time application performance, system integrations, middleware services, and connectivity between edge devices and cloud-based platforms.
Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will lead a high-performing development team while ensuring the delivery of reliable, scalable, and user-focused solutions. The role requires a strong focus on execution, software quality, and user experience, translating innovative technologies and research into robust products used in demanding real-world environments.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead the development of software for connected and immersive technology platforms, including runtime services, device integrations, user interfaces, networking, and core system components.
  • Design and deliver scalable, modular, and high-performance software for real-time applications operating on resource-constrained devices.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, contributing to architecture, design decisions, and critical areas of the codebase.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and support a multidisciplinary team of software engineers across areas such as graphics, systems, embedded technologies, and application development.
  • Establish technical direction, conduct code reviews, and foster continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Promote engineering best practices focused on performance, reliability, maintainability, and quality.

User Experience & Product Delivery

  • Take ownership of the end-to-end user experience, ensuring solutions are intuitive, reliable, and effective in real-world operational environments.
  • Collaborate closely with product stakeholders to translate business and user requirements into robust, high-quality software solutions.
  • Drive the design and optimisation of workflows, interactions, feedback mechanisms, and usability across device and platform experiences.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, product, platform, and research teams to integrate software, hardware, data, and cloud services into a seamless user experience.
  • Define and maintain clear interfaces, integration standards, and performance expectations across systems and teams.

Delivery & Quality

  • Take ownership of software releases and ensure solutions are delivered to production environments with a high standard of quality.
  • Develop and maintain automated testing, deployment processes, and development tooling to support efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Ensure software performs effectively across a variety of operating conditions, including environments with limited connectivity or other operational constraints.

Security & Operational Excellence

  • Apply secure software development principles and support compliance with data security and privacy requirements.
  • Implement monitoring, diagnostics, logging, and telemetry capabilities to support product performance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including several years in a technical leadership or team management capacity.
  • Strong background in developing real-time, high-performance software, ideally within areas such as embedded systems, graphics, immersive technologies, or other performance-critical environments.
  • Proven experience delivering and supporting production-grade software, including ownership of release processes, automated testing strategies, deployment pipelines, and operational reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering teams while remaining hands-on with architecture, design, and development activities.
  • Deep understanding of software performance optimisation, resource management, and system reliability on constrained or edge-computing devices.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating across engineering, product, and business teams.
  • Experience working with modern software development practices, including CI/CD, code quality processes, and scalable engineering workflows.
  • Familiarity with immersive technologies, spatial computing, computer vision, advanced visualisation, or related technology domains is advantageous.
  • Understanding of real-time rendering, graphics systems, simulation environments, or interactive 3D applications is beneficial.
  • Experience working within distributed, remote, or globally dispersed teams is desirable.
