Job Description:
The Head of Construction will lead and oversee a large, multi-site commercial construction portfolio across multiple locations. This role is responsible for setting the strategic direction of construction operations and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The position requires strong leadership across complex project environments and close collaboration with internal stakeholders, external partners, consultants, and contractors.
The role covers all phases of commercial construction, from early planning and pre-construction through execution, commissioning, and handover. The Head of Construction will establish and continuously improve construction processes, governance frameworks, and delivery standards while ensuring compliance with local regulations, health and safety requirements, and company policies.
Based in Berlin or operating remotely within Europe, the role involves extensive travel to project sites. The Head of Construction will act as the senior point of contact for construction-related matters, providing clear reporting and strategic input to executive leadership, while building and leading high-performing construction and project management teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee all commercial construction projects across a large, multi-site portfolio
- Define and implement construction strategies, delivery models, and governance frameworks
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards
- Provide senior oversight of budgets, schedules, procurement, and contractor performance
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
- Manage risk, resolve complex construction issues, and implement mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and local authorities
- Act as the senior escalation point for construction-related matters and executive reporting
- Lead, mentor, and develop construction and project management teams
- Drive best practices, standardisation, and continuous improvement across the portfolio
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- 10+ years of experience in commercial construction, including senior leadership of large, multi-site portfolios
- Proven track record delivering complex, large-scale commercial projects successfully
- Strong financial, budgeting, and cost-control expertise at portfolio level
- Solid experience with construction contracts, procurement, and contractor management
- Ability to lead teams and manage senior stakeholders across multiple geographies
- Experience working in regulated environments with strong health and safety standards
- German language skills preferred and considered a strong advantage; fluent English required
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively
