Our client is searching for a Head of Complex Property Tax.

About the Role

Our client is searching for a Head of Complex Property Tax to lead and develop a specialist property tax practice focused on complex commercial and specialized asset classes. This newly created leadership role has been established to provide dedicated oversight for a growing portfolio of technically challenging property tax engagements, while supporting the continued expansion of the wider business.
The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong people leadership skills, overseeing a team of property tax professionals and ensuring the delivery of high-quality advisory and appeal services. In addition to leading the function, the role will play a key part in client engagement, commercial growth initiatives, and the development of scalable processes and best practices.
This is an opportunity to shape a growing specialist practice within a technology-enabled organization operating across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of property tax specialists, providing direction, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Oversee the delivery of complex property tax engagements across a diverse portfolio of specialized commercial assets.
  • Review and challenge valuation methodologies, appeal strategies, and technical recommendations to ensure high-quality outcomes for clients.
  • Establish scalable operational processes, quality assurance frameworks, and performance standards across the function.
  • Balance technical oversight with effective delegation, ensuring appropriate levels of review while empowering team members to deliver independently.
  • Partner with senior leadership to support the continued growth and development of the complex property tax practice.
  • Act as a senior technical authority, providing guidance on complex valuation and assessment matters.
  • Build and maintain credibility with clients, stakeholders, and industry professionals through expert advice and strategic consultation.
  • Participate in high-value client discussions, commercial presentations, and business development activities.
  • Support the assessment and qualification of new opportunities, helping clients understand potential strategies and value creation opportunities.
  • Monitor developments across relevant jurisdictions and ensure the business remains informed of evolving legislation, regulations, and market practices.
  • Contribute to the expansion of services across multiple regions while maintaining operational excellence and technical consistency.

Requirements

  • Significant experience within property tax, valuation, real estate advisory, or a related discipline, with substantial exposure to complex commercial or specialized asset classes.
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing teams within a professional services, consultancy, advisory, or in-house environment.
  • Strong understanding of property tax appeals, valuation principles, and assessment review processes.
  • Experience applying and evaluating multiple valuation methodologies, including cost, income, and market-based approaches.
  • Knowledge of specialized asset valuation considerations, including depreciation, obsolescence, business personal property, and the treatment of intangible value.
  • Ability to review technical analyses and valuation models while providing strategic oversight rather than undertaking all work directly.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to assess both technical merit and business impact when evaluating opportunities.
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and presenting complex technical concepts in a clear and commercially relevant manner.
  • Demonstrated success balancing operational priorities, client service, and team performance within a growing organization.
  • Familiarity with multi-jurisdictional property tax environments and the ability to quickly understand and adapt to new regulatory frameworks.
  • Relevant professional qualifications, certifications, or licences within property tax, accounting, finance, valuation, or a related field would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication, leadership, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment and contributing to the evolution of a specialist practice.
