An international business developing scalable, cloud-based digital products is looking to appoint an experienced Technical Engineering Manager. Key Responsibilities
Team Development & Leadership
- Build and nurture diverse technical teams, creating conditions for strong engagement and performance
- Cultivate an environment grounded in mutual trust, open communication, and shared responsibility
- Oversee hiring and onboarding, and actively support career progression through structured development planning, ongoing coaching, and constructive performance management
- Maintain awareness of team composition, core competencies, and succession or growth requirements
- Encourage effective collaboration and iterative delivery practices aligned with modern product development principles
Engineering Direction & Execution
- Work cross-functionally to align technical direction with broader product and business objectives
- Provide oversight for the design, enhancement, and maintenance of cloud-based systems, including modernization of existing platforms
- Define and reinforce engineering best practices spanning maintainability, automated validation, deployment workflows, monitoring, and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to architectural thinking and technical problem-solving without removing ownership from the team
- Ensure a balanced approach to roadmap delivery, platform resilience, security posture, and long-term maintainability
- Identify and mitigate delivery constraints to maintain steady, sustainable output
Applied AI & Emerging Technology
- Support the effective introduction of AI-enabled tooling to improve engineering efficiency and output quality
- Promote measured experimentation with advanced automation and machine learning capabilities where there is clear practical benefit
- Explore opportunities to embed intelligent features into internal systems or customer-facing solutions
- Encourage knowledge exchange around experimentation outcomes to inform future decisions
Delivery Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain oversight of commitments and planning to align expectations with realistic capacity
- Leverage targeted performance indicators to enhance visibility and guide prioritization
- Advocate for ongoing refinement of engineering workflows and tooling
- Reinforce healthy operational practices, including balanced support rotations and structured learning from incidents
- Encourage financial discipline and optimization within hosted infrastructure environments
- Engage with fellow technical leaders to share practices and elevate standards across teams
Requirements
Experience
- Strong foundation in software engineering, with multiple years in technical leadership and people management roles
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling high-performing engineering teams
- Proven delivery experience with customer-facing web applications
- Comfortable operating in Agile environments with a continuous improvement mindset
- Experience leading change initiatives across technology, processes, or ways of working
- Practical experience adopting or introducing AI/ML tools within engineering teams
Technical Foundations
- Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures, AWS, and distributed systems
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language
- Strong grounding in system design and core software engineering principles
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, observability practices, and secure production environments
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
