Our client is a leading decarbonization technology startup, its commercial carbon capture and utilization system offers an effective pathway for CO₂ emissions and industrial waste materials by upcycling them into enhanced, low-carbon cement products. Using a patented system, it reduces emissions through carbon capture and abatement while fostering localized, circular supply chains. Currently, the company is commissioning its first-of-a-kind commercial system at one of Canada’s largest cement plants.

About the Role
The Vice President of Business Development will play a crucial role in driving the growth and expansion of their market presence. This position requires a strategic leader with a deep understanding of the decarbonization landscape, strong industry connections, and a proven track record in business development within the industrial tech, advanced materials or environmental technology sectors.
Responsibilities
- Strategy – Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy to expand market share and foster strategic partnerships.
- Team Leadership – Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Business Development professionals, providing strategic guidance, setting performance goals, and fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
- Business Development Processes – Build and Implement Business Development process based on their experience. Coach and mentor team on the use of the process.
- Key stakeholders – Identify and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders in the cement, concrete, and advanced materials industries.
- Contract negotiations –Format and structure contracts, lead discussions and negotiations to secure contracts with potential clients and partners.
- Relationship management – Serve as the main point of contact for partners and customers from feasibility studies through project management to commissioning and operations. Fostering long-term commercial relationships to drive Carbon Upcycling deployment on multiple projects
- Cross functional collaboration – Collaborate with the engineering and operations teams to ensure alignment between market and customer needs and product/service offerings.
- Brand visibility – Representing at industry conferences, events, and in media engagements to enhance brand visibility and thought leadership.
Qualifications & Person Specification
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field;
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development, with a focus on advanced materials, environmental technology, or related industries.
- Experience in the cement industry, with a solid network to draw on is preferred.
- Understanding of project financing and legal aspects of commercial contracts
- Ability to structure commercial contracts that consider industry and Carbon Upcycling’s preferences and needs
- Demonstrated success in leading strategic initiatives and closing high-value deals.
- Strong understanding of the decarbonization and carbon utilization sectors.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Experience in a start-up is desirable
