PropTech Senior Software Development Engineer in Test role based Remotely in the US

About our client

Our client is using cutting-edge technology—think the perception and navigation AI systems used in self-driving cars—to allow people out in the real world to efficiently capture their work, analyze it, and get things done. They’re building virtual time machines for every job site.

It’s time to help our builders build.

Affordable housing shortages, outdated infrastructure, aging power grids: these are massive, pressing problems facing our country, and the world. But we’re not confronting them as boldly as we should—in part because we haven’t provided the men and women in construction with the same powerful tools to manage their work that today’s office workers take for granted. It’s time to change that.

Reducing the cost, time, and pain it takes to build and operate will revolutionize the industry’s approach to construction specifically and real estate management broadly—and revolutionize how we manage humanity’s built environments overall. Even a savings of one percent would change the game. And we can do a lot better than one percent.

Remote job opportunities growing worldwide.

Your Impact

Your products will be used to build the physical world. The construction industry is primed for a technology disruption from AI/ML, Computer Vision, autonomous drones, digital realities (AR/VR), edge computing, digital twins, and everything in between. You will build experiences that bring these disruptive technologies to the forefront for the many personas in the construction industry, including owners, contractors, trades, insurance, financing, etc.

The Opportunity

Empower our client’s teams to build confidence in their code easily, quickly, and efficiently.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test, you will develop, execute, and maintain automated tests and the tools/frameworks/technologies that Engineers, QA, and SDETs need to test the product. You should have a combination of solid in-depth knowledge of Quality Assurance, as well as software development and object oriented design skills. The test software you will build should expose defects in production systems as well as defects in development at component and feature integration level.

Working with Engineering and QA, you will define and implement automation strategies and frameworks, testing processes, and automation test cases as well as manual test tools for unit, functional, integration, end to end (E2E), and performance testing.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test, you will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of technologies from front-end UI to back-end distributed web services. You will own the design and implementation of tests, tools, frameworks, and processes that will insure end-to-end quality of major deliverables working closely with multiple engineers and teams to execute them. Improving the developer experience, scaling, reusability, and customer experience are top priorities as the business grows.

Our client’s company is headquartered in San Francisco, but we are a fully remote work environment with no requirement to report to an office except for occasional team gatherings.

What you’ll do:
  • Design, develop and implement automated tools and test infrastructure for validating features and interfaces
  • Work with engineering and QA to automate key test cases and workflows
  • Participate in ongoing product specification and code reviews
  • Translate customer requirements and product goals into appropriate tests
  • Design, develop, and maintain test automation for unit, smoke, integration, end-to-end (e2e), mock, UI, API, performance, etc tests
  • Develop processes and best practices allowing engineers to rapidly build confidence in their code, increasing speed of delivery and ensuring an incredible user experience
  • You find large challenges exciting. You enjoy discovering and defining problems as much as solving them
  • You deliver. You may enjoy thoughtful conversations about problems and test automation engineering, but in the end, you know that what matters is delivering reliability in the form of tools for engineers to test their code, and test automation
  • You are a cross-disciplinary team member. You are excited to work with and learn from software engineers, DevOps, and QA, as well as Product Managers and Designers. You are comfortable communicating across teams.
  • Resourceful, flexible and adaptable; no task is too big or too small.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of engineering experience writing tests, preferably as an SDET or automation engineer
  • Experience with software fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, OO, etc
  • Experience writing quality code in Javascript React and at least one backend language like Java, Python, or Ruby required. Experience with Typescript is desirable.
  • Ability to build performant and reliable automation frameworks and tools to support test automation
  • Experience writing and maintaining test automation across the stack. (unit, integration, e2e, performance, regression, smoke, etc)
  • Experience with QA concepts and methodologies
  • Strong communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Debugging/troubleshooting experience on performance and stability tools
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) platforms and related tools/processes
