About Our Client

Our client is a venture capital backed innovative tech company with a focus on positive social impact, particularly where ESG and climate change are considered. They are in the scale up stage of their journey and to help them navigate further, they’re seeking a Business Consultant with 5+ years experience in a client facing business consultancy / business development role.

They are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial and autonomous mindset, motivated to be part of a founding team to develop their climate change pipeline and client base.

Our client is a pioneering technology company building unique, geospatial datasets from disparate sources of information. They arm property-related stakeholders for the fight against climate change, delivering a pathway to net zero, enhancing risk management, supporting regulatory compliance and identifying green business growth opportunities.

Social impact is the central pillar at the business. Climate change and raising living standards in the private rented sector are two impact missions underpinning their commercial strategy. Climate change is the biggest threat the human race has ever faced, and they are on a mission to overcome this humongous challenge by helping businesses achieve carbon neutrality for all UK property.

About the Role

The business consultant will play a crucial role in growing the company’s client base and revenue from existing clients in relation to their suite of climate change products. You will report directly to the Chief Growth Officer.

Ideally you will have a background in a client facing role with financial services clients (banks and mortgage lenders) though this is not essential. You will be ambitious and aspire to build and run your own division in climate change consultancy. You will have an ability to listen to customers and spot opportunities for the business’ services or future products that can develop in this space.

Previous experience in climate change related services is a plus but not essential, however passion for and capacity to absorb knowledge in this area is essential. You will need to build rapport and relationships with current and prospective clients, and be disciplined and detail oriented to follow up with them until you get the ‘yes’ they are looking for.

This role will be a fundamental piece of their growth strategy and as an early member of a young company, you will have the opportunity to build and shape the climate change data consultancy function from the ground up.

A typical day could involve any of the below:

  • Selling to and acquiring new
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with Decision-Makers/influencers to understand and track their climate change needs
  • Negotiating deal terms with new and existing clients
  • Hunting and gathering – own lead generation, as well as, working collaboratively but demandingly with marketing to activate marketing qualified leads
  • Pitching to prospective customers, and staying on top of them until the contract is signed
  • Inputting into and executing on their climate change growth strategy in collaboration with the Head of Growth, while also challenging it on a regular basis to ensure the company is on track to meet targets
  • Manage, coach and support junior staff over time, to ensure they learn and grow to reach their potential
  • Over time, build an exceptional team
  • Preparing and presenting robust and insightful management information on progress to the Senior Leadership team on a monthly basis
  • Take part in and coordinate industry events
  • Proactively use the CRM system which is an integral part of the sales process
  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of their Climate Analytics, and their target verticals
  • Working with the product, onboarding and account management functions to maximise customer value to their business (ensuring effective deployment and embedding it into their organisation / dissemination of new product ideas as a result of listening to clients)
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Proven and exceptional client relationship management skills and will have worked on relatively large consultancy (or equivalent) deals
  • Deep understanding of customer pain points and creative thinking to get deals closed
  • 5+ years’ proven experience, ideally B2B in financial services related verticals though any industry will be considered if the candidate is strong in other areas
  • Impressive numbers to prove their track record in business development or sales
  • Passion for climate change and intellectual capacity to absorb knowledge about this area quickly
  • Ability to speak to technical stakeholders, could you sell an integration partnership to a 3rd party software provider?
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software (e.g. Hubspot / Salesforce )
  • A natural entrepreneurial character striving to drive their own personal development
