About the Role
As an API Integration Specialist, you will be a key member of the Professional Services organization, acting as the link between clients and internal engineering teams. Your primary focus will be understanding customer integration needs, often involving financial or operational systems, then designing and delivering reliable, scalable solutions that support those requirements.
This position blends customer interaction, solution architecture, and hands-on technical problem-solving. You will work directly with clients to interpret business needs, translate them into clear technical specifications, and collaborate with internal developers to ensure successful configuration, testing, and deployment of integrations. Success in this role requires strong technical aptitude paired with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will also contribute to improving internal processes, tools, and documentation to drive consistency, automation, and efficiency across the integration lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with clients to gather integration requirements, understand workflows, and assess data needs.
- Design and document integration approaches that connect the platform with a variety of external systems, such as financial, operational, or document-related tools.
- Convert business requirements into detailed technical specifications, including data mappings, API details, and authentication standards.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure integrations are developed or configured according to specifications and established best practices.
- Support client testing efforts by preparing test scenarios, developing test plans, and validating integrations for accuracy, performance, and stability.
- Troubleshoot integration issues as the initial point of escalation, partnering with engineering when deeper technical support is required.
- Provide clear, structured guidance to clients and internal stakeholders on integration workflows, best practices, and troubleshooting steps.
- Contribute to improving integration processes, tools, and documentation, with an emphasis on streamlining, automation, and scalability.
- Create simple scripts or data transformations when helpful for specific integration use cases (optional but beneficial).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or analytical field (such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business Analysis), or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience designing or documenting API-based integrations in a customer-facing or consulting environment.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, JSON, XML, and general web service standards; familiarity with SOAP and common authentication methods is a plus.
- Experience working with financial or operational systems, particularly those related to accounts payable or enterprise resource management.
- Knowledge of integration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi, Apache Camel) and API testing/analysis tools (such as Postman, SoapUI, or Swagger).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, with experience resolving complex integration challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and interpret business needs for technical teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- A continuous-improvement mindset, with experience streamlining processes, enhancing workflows, or introducing automation to improve efficiency.
